#TinyHouse | The Big Brainstorm

We are up and running well before the 10am start. We have only teased you with our spin off project to the Tiny house project, ‘The Tiny House Restaurant’, so we use this opportunity to show off to our Techgirl team our skills in culinary arts and, of course, Vinu keeps his dishes fully vegan. Humus, muhamarra (great vegan recipe from ‘De Groene Meisjes’), Sri Lankan coconut roti and a Dutch apple crumble, as no party is complete without one. After the first coffees and teas we start the big brainstorm by breaking the project down into categories:

  • Construction plans, specifications and location
  • Labour and expertise
  • Sponsors and budget
  • Gadgets

TechGirl CEO Anke Horstman decides we should start talking about the construction part of the project. Staying true to our love for sustainability means not only that the structure must be weighing less than 3.5ton but also that the material must be sustainable. There are many rules and regulations when it comes to building and we want to make sure we meet all the criteria. We want our house to stand tall and proud and not fall apart after driving it around for only a few hours, so we made a long list of all the possible experts we need to make our house from an idea in our head to an actual and legal structure on a trailer. The coming days and weeks will be about contacting these possible leads. Watch your phone, you might be on our list!

Besides the people, we also have to find a place where to build our tiny house. A big working place, a shed, a barn… or even someone’s backyard. Whatever the location will be and despite some little concerns from some TechGirls, civil engineer Vinu insists to project manage the whole thing to show who’s the King of the Jungle.

After destroying all the food, it is – according to Anke – time for the mo14341746_1171299079596917_658950325_nst interesting part of the project… the gadgets. The very mention of the word ‘gadgets’ makes our eyes light up and is creating smiles from ear to ear. We start by breaking the tiny house into separate spaces and thinking about the necessities and luxuries, though the line between necessities and luxuries are a bit blurred sometimes. We absolutely need the mechanical bed, a dishwasher suitable for a mini restaurant, sustainable energy in the form of solar power system, heating, (rain)water filters and a portable projector with a kick ass sound system! The TechGirls are given the lead for the additional gadgets, including a coffee machine, a state of the art lighting systems and a robotic vacuum cleaner. In a later phase we might share all our wishes with you, but for now, let’s stay humble.

One of the questions we are faced with regularly is how TechGirl fits in with our Tiny House project. Fear not audience, we will explain this topic in depth in the future. You will come to realise that what sets our tiny house apart is that it will be state of the art. Every inch of space needs to be thought of for futuristic living while keeping everything as sustainable as possible. Modern and vintage at the same time, green as well as high-tech. This is where the social influencer in the field of tech and gadgets, TechGirl, comes in. Where we have got the wishes, they have got the connections. And together, we are going to create something extraordinary.
