Today was all about houses. In the morning I went to an open home with my friends, as one of them is thinking about buying a house. A cute house only several units away from ours, with a nice garden, two bedrooms and ‘room for a pony’, as Hyacinth Bucket would say. Visiting this house and the idea of buying a house is a giant step towards real grown up life. Makes us think about our Tiny House as well.
After the inspection, Vinu and I rushed to the city of Alkmaar in North Holland, to be in time for Marjolein Jonker’s Open Tiny House from ‘Marjolein in het klein’. She has an open home every first Saturday of the month for the public to step inside her Tiny House cottage, have Q&A sessions with her, and just to get a good look into Tiny House living. Meeting the mother of the Tiny House Netherlands movement was a big thing for us, and to see her lovely house was great. We were not only inspired but certainly left with food for thought.. We will tell you more about the visit next week, but it’s good to mention that this Tiny House adventure is a step for us towards grown up life, though a life not many grownups can or would pursue.

When we came home, we had to navigate our way through a maze of boxes. My best friend is moving out tomorrow. She has found a new spot for herself in Zwolle, so our chapter of being homies will be over within a few hours. Her leaving this house means a lot to me, as this place contains so many memories. Crazy parties, bingo nights, living room restaurant dinners, laughter, tears.. We created history in this house, and paved our futures. It made us who we are now. From now on, we will build our own stories, in our own houses. Today made me realize once again that a house is so much more than a place you live in. I want our future Tiny House to be full of stories and memories, a place where histories and futures will be created.
